Construction on the farm
If you’ve noticed the construction on our property next to the Down’s Farm Preserve on Main Road, you may be wondering what we have in store.
Russ began saving farmland from development in the late 1990s, consolidating a farm that would remain agricultural in perpetuity. Piece by piece he added more through the years and our land is now over 100 acres. We have not added any buildings in that time. The goal has always been preservation. Each parcel had the development rights sold except one roadside lot for which we retained the right to build.
Well, our farm has grown and so has our need for storage and space.
Russ discovered a historic barn in New Hampshire that was set to be demolished and had it dismantled and shipped down to our farm. In the meantime, we prepared. We have taken every consideration with environmental impact studies, archeological site review, architectural review with the town, traffic impact studies, and of course respected every town and county code. The cellar is now complete and our new barn will fit on top, nestled into the trees overlooking our farm. As though it’s been here for hundreds of years.
We look forward to completion, and after inevitable delays with historic projects and pandemic related changes in our timeline we are getting closer. We hope everyone in Cutchogue will love our new barn, we’ve taken every care to be sure it respects the North Fork atmosphere.
